The Others Person’s Fault…

The Others Person’s Fault…

It’s always someone else who causes us pain. It’s always someone else that “steps on our toe” when weren’t looking. It’s always someone else that is the problem.

This is certainly true at this particular time. With, seemingly, everyone focused on themselves how could they be the cause of their own misery? What could they have done to bring on such pain as to make them consider suicide?

Here is the thing. Until we know and understand that our misery was caused by ourselves, well, the problem will never, ever change. No, that’s incorrect. It will change as it will become far worse than the current state.

Selfishness, self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles. Driven by a hundred forms of fear, self-delusion, self-seeking, and self-pity, we step on the toes of our fellows and they retaliate. Sometimes they hurt us, seemingly without provocation, but we invariably find that at some time in the past we have made decisions based on self which later placed us in a position to be hurt. While we think of ourselves, we should be thinking of others. We should be placing others needs before our own. We should see our issues as our issues and not stemming from outside sources. We caused the misery we are living with. We are the one that hurt our feelings. We are the one that placed our spouse in a position to end the marriage. We were arrested for criminal behavior.

Above everything, we [sinners] alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness. We must, or it kills us! God makes that possible. And there often seems no way of entirely getting rid of self without His aid. Many of us had moral and philosophical convictions galore, but we could not live up to them even though we would have liked to. Neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by wishing or trying on our own power. We had to have God’s help. Source

If we don’t kill our false pride it will most certainly kill us.  So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. ~1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJB

Jesus is The Way of escape. Jesus is the only Way of escape.

What needs to happen in order for this to stop? What about confession and repentance? God sees all and knows all why do we need to confess our sins, especially to another human being?

If a person sees a photo, an image, of a natural disaster like a tornado and then goes into the disaster site, these are two completely different experiences. It’s the same thing with confession. If we confess to God and no one hears our confession the element of humility is removed. God already knows what happened – sharing it with someone else in God’s presence is whole other thing.

Either the Gospel is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of Him, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
